Today, the “vape” represents a habit that has become part of the daily life of many people. Do you know the history of the electronic cigarette? If the patent for a first of its kind appeared more than half a century ago, the electronic cigarette as we know it today was developed in the early 2000s.
A concept that is not new
The electronic cigarette (or vaporizer) has been an alternative to traditional cigarettes for several years. Today, stores with storefronts are legion, as are online platforms selling these vapers and other tasty e-liquids. Sometimes decried, sometimes acclaimed, the e-cigarette would have undeniable short-term benefits for users. Nevertheless, many risks have been mentioned in a significant number of studies, but the possible long-term effects – whether positive or negative – remain to be proven. In addition, it could be that the e-cigarette is more environmentally viable than the traditional cigarette.
The inventor of the e-cigarette is the American Herbert A. Gilbert who filed a patent in 1965. However, this concept of tobacco-free electronic cigarette has never been exploited. The vaper as we know it today was designed in 2004 by Hon Lik, a Chinese pharmacist. This first electronic cigarette worked with ultrasound from a piezoelectric device.
An evolving technology
Today, electronic cigarettes around the world use a technique of vaporization by heating a resistance. Nevertheless, the reliability concerning the operation of this type of device has only been effective since 2010. However, the technology is constantly evolving, as evidenced by the gradual abandonment of disposable e-cigarettes.
Now the most common electronic cigarettes are those capable of recharging. Also, there are impressive e-cigarettes – Mods – whose functions are numerous. The latter make it possible in particular to adjust the supply voltage of the resistance as well as the duration of the puffs, or even to perform a count of these puffs.
