The Suez Canal Authority is working to prevent these types of events from happening.
A Panamanian ship briefly ran aground on Thursday in the Suez Canal, a passage that was blocked a few months ago due to the Ever Given blockade.
According to the Suez Canal Authority, this vessel is a Coral Crystal and was trapped for a short period of 15 minutes.
This ship is designed to carry bulk coal cargo and four ships were victims of the blockade at kilometer 55. Fortunately, the tugs were able to deal with this problem quickly and easily.
Memories of Ever Given
Any disturbance is reminiscent of the famous case of the Ever Given, a vessel that blocked trade in this area for a week.
Happened almost 6 months ago, on March 29, multiple companies (and their consumers) were affected by not receiving their merchandise from the containers, valued at 600 million dollars.
The Suez Canal Authority responded to the Ever Given incident by initiating dredging work to deepen and widen the existing single lane in the southern section. It is also expanding the existing second lane by about 10 km.
