Apple and Richard Plepler signed a 5-year contract.
The man who contributed 27 years to the development and success of HBO joins the adventure of Apple TV +, reports the New York Times. A personality of choice for Apple’s streaming platform, which will develop and produce exclusive content for Apple over a period of 5 years through its company Eden Productions. This should help contribute to the success of Apple TV +.
Richard Plepler is no stranger to Apple, he has been close to Eddy Cue, senior vice president of software and services at Apple for several years. The two had previously worked together in 2015 to set up HBO Now, HBO’s online service.
Difficult to know how much Apple spent to pay for the services of the ex-CEO of HBO, but the man says he is delighted to join the adventure: “I thought that Apple [TV +] had the right idea very quickly, but because it was quite embryonic I said to myself: “maybe I could make a small contribution” ».
The former HBO boss will find himself in a delicate position since he will produce exclusive content for Apple TV + and help its development while it will directly compete with HBOmax, the streaming service of HBO. “There is room for everyone who wants to do it right and produce good content. And I don’t think two minutes will compete with HBO, “he told the New York Times. “I don’t think that way, objectively, and I don’t think like that emotionally.”
We will have to be patient to see what this collaboration between Apple TV + and Eden Productions will give. Will the next Game of Thrones be released on Apple’s streaming platform?
